Post-doctoral Research Position in Optical Spectroscopy
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research position in the optical spectroscopy group within the Center for Molecular and Biomolecular Imaging at Duke University, to conduct studies on melanins in biological tissue.
The successful applicant will work in an interdisciplinary team of researchers to apply novel spectroscopic methods towards imaging different types of melanin in skin. The research is geared towards transitioning new spectroscopic methods to medically relevant settings. The primary application area is the study of dynamic pigment distribution in healthy tissue and developing melanomas, in order to aid characterization and ultimately the diagnosis of this common and deadly form of skin cancer.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be involved in all stages of this project, from the basic development of new spectroscopic methods to the evaluation of clinical samples.
Skill set:
Required:- Knowledge in optical microscopy and spectroscopy
- Experience in data acquisition, analysis and presentation
- Self-motivated; ability to work independently and with a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong communication and analytical skills
Preferred:
- Knowledge in laser physics and nonlinear optics
- Experience in tissue imaging or tissue spectroscopy
- Experience in handling of biological samples
Applicants should e-mail their cover letter and resume to Dr. Martin Fischer <martin.fischer@duke.edu>.
