How to Detect what we Cannot see?
As we continue down this road, a basic understanding of radioactivity and
nuclear chemistry is beginning to take shape. We have learned of its
discovery and the properties that led scienties to this discovery. We
have also learned about how contemporary societies make use of these
properties. We will now see how ionizing radiation can be detected and
measured within a working environment.
Detection and measurement of radioactive materials in the workplace is
extremely important to protect the safety of individuals. The most
common detection devices are the Geiger-Mueller counters (geiger
counters), scintillation detectors, liquid scintillation counters and
solid state detectors.
