INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE VIDEO PROJECTION SYSTEM

IN ROOM 103 GROSS CHEM


ALL USERS:
For Best Results it is important that you follow the sequence listed in these instructions. Numbers in parentheses refer to drawings.
 
 

STARTING UP

1. Obtain AV Cabinet Key from front desk in Chemistry Office, Room 101.

2. Unlock black AV Cabinet (note that the key cannot be removed while padlock is unlocked).

 3. Turn RED SWITCH (10) in upper right corner ON.

 4. Lower the projection screen using the switch on the wall (2).

 5. Turn PROJECTOR ON by pressing the button, labeled "ON/OFF" in the upper left corner of the Projector Control Panel(3), ONCE (the Projector Control Panel is located on the wall above the AV Cabinet).

 6. The EIKI logo should be projected on a BLUE Screen and a 30 second count-down sequence should be displayed.
 
 
 

VIDEO PROJECTION (Video tape or cable TV)

 1. Make sure that the VCR is on by checking the POWER button on the VCR.

 2. Make sure that the Projector Control Panel is set to VIDEO 1 by pressing the INPUT button on the Projector Control Panel (3). Pressing the INPUT button switches between COMPUTER 1, COMPUTER 2, and VIDEO 1. The INPUT that is set should be displayed momentarily on the lower left hand corner of the screen.

 3. If the INPUT is set to VIDEO 1 and you see a Blue Screen, you are ready to show your video. If cable television is projected on the screen, TURN CABLE TV OFF by pressing the CABLE TV OFF Switch (6) located on the outside right side of the AV Cabinet toward the wall.

 4. INSERT VIDEO into VCR. A remote for the VCR and a laser pointer are located in the bottom drawer (18).

 5. Turn on the pre-amplifier (16) and the amplifier (17).

 6. Set the sound to VCR by pushing the button labeled VCR (14) on the PreAmp Mixer, located below the VCR and Extron Unit in the AV Cabinet. To control the sound level, use the buttons labeled UP and DOWN (15) located on the right end of the PreAmp Mixer.

 7. Set the room lighting to the desired level by using switches on the lighting control panel (4). Suggested lighting is to turn off left and right main lights and leave on the left and right aisle lights and the blackboard lights. If you want the interior of the cabinet lighted, turn on the panel lighting (11), pull out the two lighting-tubes, and adjust the intensity with the dimmer control.

 8. Play the video using the remote control as usual.
 

LAPTOP PROJECTION

1. Using the Black (25 foot) or White (8 foot) VGA Cable in the AV Cabinet Drawer or in the rolling cart (8) near the AV Cabinet, connect your Laptop to the "Computer In" (13) connection in Extron Unit located below the VCR in the AV Cabinet. If you want internet connection, plug the long yellow internet cable originating from station B27 ((7)) into the laptop.

 2. If you need sound with your laptop presentation, plug the audio cable which is kept in the bottom drawer (18) into your laptop and into the audio input which is adjacent to the "computer in" input (13) on the Extron interface. If your laptop is not a Mac G4 and it requires a connector other than the one in the drawer (18), contact Arts and Sciences AV Services at 660-3088 in advance to arrange to have the proper connector available in time for your presentation.

3. Make sure that the Projector Control Panel (3) is set to COMPUTER 1 by pressing the INPUT button on the Projector Control Panel (3). Pressing the INPUT button switches between COMPUTER 1, COMPUTER 2, and VIDEO 1. The INPUT that is set should be displayed momentarily on the lower left hand corner of the screen.

 4. If you are using a power supply with your laptop, there is a 110 V plug strip (9) mounted on the side of the rolling cart (8)

5. TURN ON YOUR LAPTOP

 6. After your Laptop completely boots look, to see if you have a screen image.

IF NO IMAGE:

 * Check cable connections for tightness.

 * Make sure that your laptop is set to use an external monitor.

o MAC users go to "Arrange" on the Monitors Control Panel. Drag the two monitor icons so that one is on top of the other. The screen image should appear. Close the Monitors Control Panel.

o PC users use the change display keystrokes to toggle between laptop screen, external monitor, and both screens (usually FN F8)

 
AFTER IMAGE IS SEEN:

 * Does the Projector Screen Image display the whole Laptop Desktop?

o If so, begin your presentation

o If not, push the "A" button on the Projector Control Panel (3) to resize the screen image to include the whole desktop. An hour glass image will appear with "Wait a Moment" displayed nest to it. The full screen should be projected. You are now ready to begin your presentation.


 7. A laser pointer is available from the drawer (18).

8. Set the room lighting to the desired level by using switches on the lighting control panel (4). Suggested lighting is to turn off left and right main lights and leave on the left and right aisle lights and the blackboard lights.  If you want the interior of the cabinet lighted, turn on the panel lighting (11), pull out the two lighting-tubes, and adjust the intensity with the dimmer switch.

9. Control the projection by using your computer as usual.
 
 

MUTING PROJECTOR OUTPUT

To obtain a blank screen, press the mute button on the projector control panel (3). Pressing the button again restores projection. (Useful if you need to project a transparency using an overhead projector.)
 
 

SHUTTING DOWN

1. Turn off the PROJECTOR OFF by pressing the Projector Control Panel button labeled "ON/OFF" in the upper left corner of the Projector Control Panel  (3)TWICE. Pressing the button once gives you the prompt on the screen "Turn Projector Off?". Pressing the button again turns the projector off.

 2. Shut down the laptop and disconnect it and any other devices that you connected to the AV Cabinet.

 3. Turn RED SWITCH in upper right corner OFF. (10)
