Information Concerning Advanced Placement Credit in Chemistry
AP SCORE = 3, IB score of 5, or A-level score of C

- Take CHEM 21L in the fall semester followed by CHEM 22L in the spring semester.
- Take CHEM 21L in the spring semester followed by CHEM22L in the fall of 2009.
AP SCORE = 4, IB score of 6, A-level score of B
Students earning an AP chemistry score of 4 receive credit for Chemistry 19 and should choose CHEM 23L in the fall or Chem 22L in the spring semester.
AP SCORE = 5, IB score of 7, A-level score of A
Students earning an AP chemistry score of 5 in their senior
year, receive credit for Chemistry 19 and should choose CHEM 151L.
Students
earning an AP chemistry score of 5 in their junior
year receive credit for Chemistry 19 and may take CHEM 151 in the fall semester. However, they may
want to consider taking CHEM 23L in the fall semester (for a structured review of general
chemistry) before taking CHEM 151L in the spring semester.
General Recommendation. In general, we recommend starting at the highest chemistry course for which you are qualified as early as possible. If you experience significant difficulty in CHEM 23L or CHEM 151L, you may request a lower placement (to CHEM 21L or CHEM 22L, respectively) anytime during the first month of the semester.
