Microreactors, Encapsulated Catalysts, and Mechanisms: New Tools and Techniques For Polymer and Small Molecule Synthesis
- Abstract:
- The synthesis of pharmaceutical agents is a key aspect of both our nation’s well-being and economy. These positive features are tempered by the fact that for each kilogram of pharmaceutical produced, 25-100kg of waste are generated. As resources become scarcer, this waste will increase the cost of drugs and consequently limit access. The goal of the McQuade group is to create new materials and methods to synthesize drugs more efficiently. This seminar will detail three different strategies for catalyst encapsulation and the benefits and challenges associated with encapsulation. In addition, the role of reaction mechanism in catalyst design will be discussed.
