Exploring Strategies for Carbohydrate and Alkaloid Synthesis
Abstract:
Host: Stephen Craig

Abstract: Considerable effort has been devoted to the development of new methods for glycosidic bond formation, as this is the primary means for the controlled assembly of biologically important complex carbohydrates. New methods for glycosidic couplings have been developed, employing employment of novel sulfonium reagents derived from sulfoxides and sulfides. Details on the scope, mechanism and application to the total synthesis of immunostimulants will be described. In addition, initial synthetic efforts directed at accessing the pyrrolidine cores of complex alkaloids will be presented. These strategies involve the development and application of novel modes of heterocycloaddition reactions.
