Design, Synthesis, Characterization and Spectroscopy of Novel Nano-scale Upconversion Nanocrystals
Abstract:

Two types of upconversion nanocrystals, yttrium oxide and sodium rare-earth fluorides have been designed, synthesized, and characterized for the purpose of identifying structure-function relationships of energy transfer, migration, and propagation of the upconversion process on the nanoscale, from picoseconds to nanoseconds utilizing various steady state and time resolved spectroscopies. Engineering dominant UV upconverters has been a focus of controlling emissive wavelengths from NIR excitations. Furthermore, surface functionalization has started to be optimized for a variety of biological applications for drug delivery and targeting in vivo.
