The Asymmetric Aldol Reaction of Acyclic Ketones via Chiral N-Amino Cyclic Carbamate (ACC) Hydrazones
Abstract:

The addition of ketone enolates and carbonyl-type systems encompasses fundamental reactions in synthetic organic chemistry, in particular the aldol reaction. Much research has been focused on controlling the regiochemistry and stereochemistry of aldol additions. Unfortunately, while effective, such procedures have their own inherent limitations in terms of cost, practicality, or versatility. Consequently, the state of the art with respect to asymmetric aldol addition reactions of ketone enolates leaves considerable room for improvement. This report describes an approach to this transformation using chiral hydrazones that appears to be both highly anti selective and holds the potential to be highly enantioselective, as well.
