Efforts Towards the Total Chemical Synthesis of Antimicrobial Natural Products Pahayokolides A and B and Schizotrin A
- Abstract:
The constant emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria drives the search for new antimicrobial agents. A novel structural class of cyclic peptides including pahayokolides A and B and schizotrin A has been shown to inhibit representative species of Bacillus. The undecapeptides contain three nonstandard amino acids: E-dehydrobutryine (Dhb), Z-Dhb, and 3-amino-2,5,7,8-tetrahydroxy-10-methylundecane (AThmU). This paper describes progress towards the synthesis of these unique amino acids and outlines the total synthesis of pahayokolides A and B and schizotrin A utilizing solid phase peptide synthesis.
