Abstract:

Room temperature ionic liquids are salts that are liquid at or below room temperature. They are environmentally benign since they have no measurable vapor pressure. Some ionic liquids have particularly useful solubility properties, making them good solvents for transitional metal catalysis. Such ionic liquid systems enable easy catalyst recycling and product isolation. The nonvolatile and reusable nature of the ionic liquid makes them  "green solvents".
